Aromatically, oud is among the most diverse and complex oils in the world. Depending on its origin, age, and extraction method, oud can exhibit countless iridescent effects that appear simultaneously woody, spicy, floral, smoky, earthy, musky, refined, fecal, and animalic. Finding rare ouds to collect and wear directly on the skin is somewhat different from creating oud perfumes.

 

Oud perfume, like most modern perfumes, seeks to draw inspiration from studies of oils that could never be mass-produced (for regulatory, environmental, artistic, and economic reasons). The magic of the perfumer's touch lies in their ability to reconstruct specific aromas with other materials.
