Alien Fruit 30.05 50 ml

I'm poolside at an impossibly elegant resort, surrounded by an electric rainbow of bikinis, sarongs, and swimsuits. Snatches of conversation float past me: Italian, Mandarin, French, and Spanish. Waiters come and go between the cabanas, balancing trays of tropical cocktails, freshly cut fruit, and yuzu sorbet. I nibble on the pomegranate seeds floating in my drink and grab a slice of watermelon from the table next to me. It's icy cold, full of juice that drips onto my wrists with every bite. I feel a tap on my shoulder and look up to see two children giggling. They're both eating an exotic fruit, something like a cross between dragon fruit and star fruit. Lime yellow, almost neon.

 

The taller of the two hands me a napkin. I try to thank them, but they look at me more and more quizzically with every language I try. Thank you, xièxie, merci, gracias. They giggle shyly and whisper to each other in a language. I've never heard of them before. "Where are you from?" I ask, also waving. They point toward the sky, which suddenly changes from bright blue to pink. When I look back, they've already run away, leaving me with a dozen of their colorful fruits. I hold one in my hand, and suddenly the whole world is awash in neon lime yellow.
