I wake in an unfamiliar room. It feels like a Provençal farmhouse. Soft summer light filters through the half-open window. The linen curtains rustle in a light breeze. I feel comfortable, as if weightless. Wave-like ripples gently move across the bed, making it seem alive. This bed is large, and I occupy one side. The other is still warm. The scent of the sheets fills me, and I am completely captivated. A smell of open air and skin.

 

I breathe happily into the empty pillow. I must live here, because on the bedside table I see two of my favorite books. I look up and see the fan made of lilies of the valley, releasing their sweet scent.

I hear the water running in the adjacent bathroom. I try to enter, but the door is locked. I turn and suddenly find myself in a meadow, sitting at a rustic wooden table.

 

Enjoying the view of the wildflowers, I drink a glass of orange juice that continues to fill like a cornucopia. I close my eyes, surrendering to the beauty of the moment. The sweet, strident sound of a key turning in the lock shatters my reverie.

Finally, the bathroom door opens…

My heart stops, because I know I'm about to see the face of my true love.
