I'm in this big house, where I used to go when I was little. A beautiful house, with a huge, unfenced garden. The lawn ends where the forest begins, and only the magnolia in front of the house dances and casts its living shadow. In the grass I see poppies as big as sunflowers, and butterflies alighting here and there on the flowers. It's late morning. The day is sunny. The rays of the sun shine through the windows and dance in arabesques, creating animated stained-glass windows. My mother is in the kitchen, making jam; her hands are stained with freshly picked berries.

 

The smell permeates the room, and I can distinctly detect a pungent odor. I want to taste the liquid in the pot, but she asks me to be patient; it needs to cool. To pass the time, I go into the garden and blow soap bubbles. On the thin pink and blue film, I see my reflection. And behind me, I see a shape growing lighter. It's a cat sunbathing. It meows, beckoning me to approach. I pet it. Every time I run my hand through his fur, I find one of my favorite toys, so I pet it frantically. I have to stop because my mother is calling me to go to the table. And I wake up.
